Editorial Reviews:

Having completed the two cycles of legend to which she has devoted her career so far, Anne Rice gives us now her most ambitious and courageous book, a novel about the early years of CHRIST THE LORD, based on the Gospels and on the most respected New Testament scholarship.
The book’s power derives from the passion its author brings to the writing and the way in which she summons up the voice, the presence, the words of Jesus who tells the story.
From the Hardcover edition.

Customer Rating: Summary: Accurate Theology Lacking Due to Catholic Devotion? Comment: I agree with the many reviews that say this book is lacking...I want to be drawn into thoughts based on accurate research not based on Catholic beliefs (explain how you can disregard the Scriptures/writings that state Mary and Joseph conceived children after Christ???). As a Christian, I can not get past someone's conversion from the darkness into the nightlight of Catholicism when the spotlight of God's truth shines brightly through the pages of the Bible alone! Books that show us how the traditions of the day make the Bible understandable in context of our beliefs/traditions/way of life are books worth reading - this is not one of them! Try Tracy Groot (Madman; The Brother's Keeper) or Francine River's books (Mark of the Lion Series; The Lineage of Grace Series) if you want to be taken back in time to the days of Jesus (and before/after). Both authors do a great job at research and presenting a human face to why millions have been willing to die for Christ...you will find that you want to know Him more and will want to live for Him after reading their books. More importantly, you will find that the Bible just plan makes sense after reading Rivers/Groot - Anne Rice doesn't do that for me...Oh yeah, throw your red pens away or get ready to edit this book to death! I have never read a book that I had to read sentences over and over (and still I didn't "get" some of them)!
Customer Rating: Summary: Christ the Lord, Out of Egypt Comment: The book was received on time as promised. It was in the good condition as stated.
Customer Rating: Summary: Starts really well but a little slow towards the middle/end Comment: This book started out really well, but halfway through, I found it lacking in excitement and story line...Although the research involved in this book appears to be extensive, it looses a little bit of the story line, focusing too much on Jesus thoughts...Not a bad read, just a little slow..
Customer Rating: Summary: Boring sweet fantasy Comment: I have read the vast majority of Anne Rice's other books( liked them) and really liked Memnock the Devil. It was obvious in that book that Anne had a grasp on Christian theology so I was very interested to read Christ the Lord. What a disappointment. Boring and writen for kids. Poorly fleshed out characters and one part when Jesus ( this is minor)stops the rain on a walk home...yea sure I grew up in a desert and you are thankful for every single drop of rain you get. ( that is how to tell the locals from new comers...locals don't complain about the rain) So my point is that she doesn't really have a feel for life in the area and ...yea like sure I believe in the virgin birth. Just like I believe in George slaying a dragon!!! I do think that Jesus was the embodiment of the Christ spirit but this woman did a pitiful job of creating what could have been a rich spiritual novel. I hope her faith is bigger than this book. I might add that Krishnamurti wrote At the Feet of the Master when he was 12, he was great spiritual leader.I also have known Mystic leaders who also could heal people by their touch, maybe she needs to meet some people like that.
Customer Rating: Summary: It Speaks To The Heart. Comment: This is a picture of Jesus - as a young boy - that fits comfortably into the character of Christ as found in the Gospels... and yet the creative detail imagined to fully render that character brings a fresh light and joy to the subject. The heart of this book testifies to its author's spirit of humility and grace.
Those who know the Lord will love this story. For those unfamiliar with Christ, what an introduction to the possibilities of his undocumented early years!
Thank you Anne, for moving us.
