"Looky!" says a silly turkey swinging from a vine. Gobble gobble wibble wobble.Whoops! Now there are nine.Girls and boys will gobble up this hilarious story about ten goofy turkeys and their silly antics: swinging from a vine, strutting on a boar, doing a noodle dance, and more. Veteran author Tony Johnston has written a joyful text, which first-time illustrator Richard Deas brings to life as wild and wacky fun!

Summary: Makes my toddler laugh
Comment: This silly, cute turkey counting book has nice pictures. It is a countdown of 10 silly turkeys each showing off for each other and then falling off the fence they are sitting on. I always like books that rhyme and my 21 month old laughs at every page (I think because each page says something like "uh oh" or "oopsy" as the turkey falls off the fence) though I'm not entirely sure why and I don't think he gets much of what's going on, he loves the rhyming and the actions I do and the pictures and the exclaimations. I just love hearing him laugh so I read this over and over.

Summary: Thanksgiving book
Comment: My 3 year old granddaughter loved this book. She quickly caught onto the rhyming of the book and could finish the lines by looking at the illustrations. The book is predictable but, in using the Thanksgiving theme, makes for an interesting book.

Summary: Good Book
Comment: My son loves Dr. Seus. This book is full of tongue twisters. It is enjoyable if you enjoy a tonque twister book. It reminds me of 10 monkeys jumping on the bed. It is a good counting book.

Summary: Silly & Fun!
Comment: If you're looking for a serious book about Thanksgiving, then 10 Fat Turkeys is not the book for you. This book is about ten fat turkeys walking along a fence, when one by one they fall, break the fence, and perch on a tree instead. It's funny, and intended to appeal to the very young, or young at heart. The illustrations are bright, and bold, and will appeal to young children say 1 to 5-years. My son laughs when I read this book, and now at five he's starting to read it to himself.

10 Fat Turkey's mimics the pattern in Melanie Gerth's, Ten Little Ladybugs, although Gerth's book is sweet, this work is just plain silly.

10 fat turkeys fooling on a fence.
"Looky!" says a silly turkey, swinging from a vine.
GOBBLE GOBBLE WIBBLE WOBBLE whoops! Now there are...9.

It's a lesson in simple subtraction, and one we enjoy reading after Halloween. It's not a Thanksgiving book per se, there is no mention of the holiday, or even the season. It just a fun, nonsense book for little tykes.
