Every avid knitter has faced this dilemma: deep into a project at midnight, just trying to finish one more row, and, then . . . oh no, a dropped stitch three rows back! Help! If only there was a 24-hour hotline to answer every question a knitter might encounter. Well, now there is, with The Knitting Answer Book . The expert authors, Margaret Radcliffe and Edie Eckman, leave no question unanswered, no quandry unaddressed. Each book contains detailed, illustrated answers to literally hundreds of questions, from the common to the more unusual: • Are certain needles better for certain yarns? • What if I dropped a stitch several rows back? • Why do my edges tend to curl up? • Can you use a different weight yarn than the pattern calls for? • What can I do to keep my yarns from tangling up? • Oops, I see my ribbing is way too tight. Now what?
Covering the whole range of situations a beginner is likely to face, along with the problems that may arise for those working more advanced patterns, this Answer Book will help knitters and crocheters of all levels. Each book is packaged in a small, take-along trim size, in a friendly-to-use Q&A format, and belongs in the bag of every knitter. Available 24/7, The Knitting Answer Book is always open, ready for yarn lovers to browse and consult to their heart’s content.

Customer Rating: Summary: A great knitting resource Comment: I am so grateful for this book. Almost every knitting project offers a challenge and this knititng book has helped me with every one. A must have for a beginning knitter, but I can see how it is a valuable resource for any level knitter. My one complaint is that sometimes I have a hard time finding the information I want, but once I do, I'm always satisfied with the result.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Great Answer Book Comment: I have just started knitting and I have tried so many reference books to learn. This book though, I keep in my project bag. You never know when you are going to forget how to do something. Or when there isn't a stitch definition with the pattern you're working on.
This book has everything for a beginner or anyone else needing a quick reminder. I haven't found another book with this much info in one spot. And it is the right size to slip into your bag.
I would recommend this to anyone interested in knitting.
I also love and own "The Crochet Answer Book".
Customer Rating: Summary: Portable but needs better indexing Comment: This is a very compact book, handy for your knitting bag, and I admit to using it at least once a week. The problem with it is that the index is very weak. For example, I had instructions saying "KFB". That is not in the index -- once I'd googled it I found that that is an increase, so I looked under "increase" and managed to find an entry. I have amended my index to have a cross-reference (I guess I should admit I'm also a librarian, to whom such things matter). I also would like to see better drawings in it -- something like you find in Stitch and Bitch. Despite all this, I use it fairly often and it usually manages to answer my questions, after I've found where the editors decided to put the answers.
Customer Rating: Summary: NOT PRACTICAL Comment: I bought this book and what a mistake! I gave it 2 stars, but really would like to give it none. The only reason I gave it 2 was because a lot of people (given the previous reviews) seem to find it useful. The most useful thing I have learned from this book is to never buy a knitting book without using it first (from the library or a friend). Take a technique you would like to learn and see if the book describes it in a way you can understand. VOGUE KNITTING IS FAIRLY GOOD, but for a large reference, the best I have found so far is THE ULTIMATE KNITTERS BIBLE. The pictures are large and I can actually go from the book to utilizing the instructions in a real project. Each time I have a question I look at all of my reference books. I have never found The Knitting Answer Book understandable. P.S. I have a graduate degree and don't consider myself to be stupid.
